READ: 'Turn Up The Heat' Album Breakdown - Track 7

Written by Matt Interrupt

'More Fire' is an uptempo dancehall tune featuring London based MCs Jago and Deemas J. This track started life as my attempt to make a riddim in the style of the Japanese label Tachyon Records, responsible for the 'Dancehall Sizzling' compilation series in the early 90s. I've always enjoyed their productions - the riddims are super fast paced and the production style is always very technical and intricate.

I was doing some recording sessions with Jago when we recorded the first version of the vocal. I think we re recorded the whole thing maybe 2 or 3 times before the final session, when he brought Deemas J along to record some additional parts. We were already feeling the tune but I love the vibes that Deemas brought to the track, the falsetto vocals in the intro and MC parts really compliment Jago's vocal style.

When we voiced this track it wasn't actually intended for the Reggae Roast LP, I was working on a separate project with Jago but when James heard the riddim he loved it and we ended up using it for the album. In the end the 'More Fire' theme fit the album really well.

The vibe on this track is just pure energy, it's one of the fastest tracks on the LP and definitely one of my favourites to play in the dance!
